The desire to travel remains strong. Following the setbacks of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism industry has recovered and is reaffirming its position as one of the largest economic sectors worldwide.
While this growth brings positive effects such as increased income and employment opportunities, global travel also creates significant socio-cultural and environmental challenges. These include acculturation, violations of social standards and human rights, environmental degradation, and rising CO₂ emissions that contribute to climate change.
This is where the interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree program Sustainable Tourism (B.A.) comes into play. Its aim is to maximise the positive impacts of tourism while minimising its negative consequences. Achieving this requires well-trained professionals who can actively shape the transformation of global tourism.
As a student in this English-taught bachelor’s program, you will engage with current issues in the tourism industry and develop practical, application-oriented solutions. By integrating perspectives from tourism, sustainability, sociology, economics, and ecology, the program equips you with a comprehensive understanding of the field and prepares you to become a “change agent” in your future career.
