The University of Kent
The Canterbury campus is Kent's original site, founded in 1965. It is built on 300 acres of parkland overlooking Canterbury and is still growing and evolving. Modern buildings are surrounded by open green spaces, courtyards, gardens, ponds and woodland, and the view across Canterbury and the Stour valley all help to make it an attractive and friendly campus.

The campus is self-contained, which means that you are usually within walking distance of all the excellent facilities on offer: the Templeman Library, the Computing Service, the Medical Centre, the Sports Centre, the Gulbenkian Theatre complex including Cinema 3, the Students' Union including the Venue nightclub, the Campus Shop and bookshop, banks and cash points, bistros, bars, public access terminals, bus-stops and launderettes. Canterbury city centre is only 20 minutes walk away, or on a direct bus route.

There are approximately 11,000 students on campus, including undergraduates and postgraduates, plus lecturers, research staff, members of the local community and overseas students on a year abroad. With 130 nationalities represented, and approximately one third of all postgraduate students from countries outside the EU, the campus has a very cosmopolitan feel.

Campus life centres round four colleges, the Templeman Library, purpose-built science laboratories and teaching buildings, and the Students' Centre.

The four colleges at Kent are each named after distinguished British figures - Darwin, Eliot, Keynes and Rutherford. They are more than just halls of residence, because in addition to living, social and catering facilities they also house lecture theatres, seminar rooms, computer terminal rooms, and some academic departments.

All students and academic staff belong to a college, whether or not they live on campus. So you will have plenty of opportunity to meet people studying different subjects. The colleges give you access to a ready-made community from the moment you arrive at Canterbury.
