Naval Academy named after the Heroes of Westerplatt

The Heroes of Westerplatte Naval Academy educates professional soldiers and civilian students from Poland and abroad. 102 years of tradition, history, and an upbringing based on patriotic values, along with modern teaching facilities and a qualified academic staff, provide the education for Navy officers best prepared for service.

The Polish Naval Academy is the successor to the Polish Naval Officers' School, established in Toruń in 1922. The Academy pursues a mission of paramount importance to the state and nation, making a key contribution to the country's defense and security, particularly its maritime security, educating cadets, students, and doctoral candidates in accordance with the values ​​expressed in the mottos: "Sea, Homeland, Duty" and "Amor Patriae Suprema Lex."

In 1981, the Faculty of Navigation and Ship Armament (WNiUO) gained the authority to award the academic degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the discipline of geodesy and cartography, as well as in the specialization of marine navigation. Furthermore, since 1987, the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (WME) has been authorized to award the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences in the specialization of machine design and operation. On the 65th anniversary of the establishment of OSMW, on October 1, 1987, WSMW was renamed the Naval Academy (AMW). Thus, the school became an academy, a privilege it had enjoyed since 1955. Currently, in addition to candidates for professional soldiers (cadets), the AMW also educates officers and civilian students at four faculties:

Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (WME)
Department of Maritime Command and Operations (WDiOM)
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (WNHiS)

The university currently employs 16 professors, 43 postdoctoral fellows, and 81 doctors. The Academy's main celebration falls on October 1st. A special event in the history of the Polish Naval Academy and the Polish Naval Academy was the navigational and training cruise around the world on the ORP "Iskra" under the command of Lieutenant Commander Czesław Dyrcz. This was combined with participation in Sail Indonesia '95 (April 18, 1995 – February 10, 1996). During the cruise, the cadets familiarized themselves with the hydrometeorological conditions of the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans, visited 19 ports around the world, and sailed around Cape Horn. The route covered nearly 37,000 nautical miles.
