Institute of Electronic Engineering

M.Sc. in System Test Engineering

Experts in the systematic testing of complex electronic and mechatronic systems
are on high demand in many industry sectors such as in the electronic and the automotive industry. The new Master’s degree programme “System Test Engineering” (MSc. in Engineering) makes you an expert in this field.

We offer a unique academic and hands-on-oriented program with a lot of project-based and interdisciplinary lectures within a vibrating environment of international industry leaders and start-up companies. Moreover, we offer state-of-the-art laboratories, experts from industry and a work-friendly programme that gives you the opportunity to work part time.

Our programme focuses on international students with a sound background either in electronic engineering, computer engineering, or mechanical engineering.

System test engineers are in high demand
Our strategic partners such as ams AG, AT&S, AVL List, Infineon Technologies, Magna International, Advantest Corporation, Akka Technologies, and NXP Semiconductors are highly interested in meeting and supporting students from “System Test Engineering” and in offering employments to graduates within their companies.

Many of our lecturers are working for international companies in the field of System Test Engineering and provide in addition to the theoretical foundations an up-to-date practical knowledge to you.

Equipment
We have state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities. Beside our electronic labs and computer labs, we have, in particular, a test laboratory with state-of-the-art PXI systems for characterizing electronic components, an absorber chamber for EMC measurements as well as an ATE laboratory with advanced testing facilities.

Key subject areas
We offer a new and unique Master’s degree programme that is tailored to the needs of the industry. You will become an expert in the following key areas:

Applied Mathematics
You learn to analyze and visualize measurement data and how to apply methods of signal processing and machine learning.

Software Development & Test Automation
You learn to develop automatic test software to establish data connections among measurement equipment, computers and devices under test in order to build up complex, automated measurement and test systems.

Electronics & Measurement Engineering
You learn to test digital and mixed-signal integrated circuits, to implement test circuits, to design EMC compliant printed circuit boards for high frequencies and to program microcontrollers and their interfaces.

Requirements & Quality Management
You learn to manage projects according to the V-model, to understand the process of system and component qualifications and to develop test specifications. You become familiar with measurement and test standards and reliability requirements for products and systems.

Semiconductor Testing & System Testing
You can either specialize in the area of Semiconductor Testing or in the area of System Testing: Semiconductor Testing focuses on semiconductor verification, validation and production testing, whereas System Testing focuses on mechatronic systems such as automated and autonomous driving functions in vehicles in different testing environments.

Communication & Project Management
You learn to plan and implement projects in the field of testing and document, to present and communicate the results and measurement data.

Master’s Thesis & Scientific Work
In your Master’s thesis you will carry out research in your specialized field and write your thesis.
