    About the University



    Kuban State University (KSU), the scientific and educational center of Kuban and South of Russia, is situated in Krasnodar. Kuban State University was founded in 1920 and is today one of the leading universities in the country. It is characterized by the high level of fundamental researches and constant improvement of educational process, due to the intensive science development.

    The University has a wide range of international scientific and educational contacts with higher education institutions of the USA, Germany, England, France, Japan, China, Korea, Greece, Turkey, etc. At present it closely co-operates with 51 foreign universities (see website http:// www.kubsu.ru).

    KSU is the basic Russian University in the recently established Black Sea Economic Co-operation (BSEC) on the problems of science and technology. It is the only institution of higher education in the Russian Federation which has been elected a member of Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology - IRIS (USA). The University possesses unique research equipment such as a complex of heavy vibroseismic installations TV-100; the products of modern technological laboratories, like laser materials are purchased by the USA, Germany, Japan and other countries.

    Its rating as a research and higher education institution is of high repute. The University has won all the existing types of international grants. Russian and foreign students studying in KSU are involved in carrying out the researches within the framework of international grants. KSU has numerous scientific and educational contacts with the Russian Academy of Science. It gives the University an opportunity to invite the most prominent Russian and foreign scientists and researchers to lecture and work on the joint scientific and research projects.

    The University activities in the field of foreign students training are highly appreciated by the universities and colleges of the USA and Great Britain, the students of which (from 10 to 20 persons in a group) come to study at Kuban State University. Consequently, KSU has been co-operating with the Associated Colleges of the Midwest and Great Lakes (USA), uniting 28 colleges and 2 universities for more than 13 years; it has been successfully carrying out the agreement on academic programs exchange with the University of Bristol (England) for 10 years. The University has created the conditions for international students' study and leisure that satisfy all the highest requirements. Due to the geographical situation of Krasnodar Territory (the center of southern Russia) Kuban State University gives foreign students a chance to study the history, culture, life and customs, traditions, habits and ways of different nations in the Northern Caucasus.

    KSU offers Russian and overseas students its comfortable holiday homes at the Black Sea coast to have a good rest and, if necessary, modern medical treatment after a hard work during the academic year. Students who don't speak Russian at all are welcome to take the intensive preparatory courses of different duration in Russian. KSU is the leading university of the country in the field of theory and methodology of teaching Russian. The University has two Councils awarding Ph.D. and Professorship in Linguistics, which give foreign students a certain advantage in obtaining the highest possible knowledge of Russian to be applied in any field of study.

    The educational and research programs as well as any other kind of activities are carried out regardless of any kind of discrimination: sex, race, religion, nationality, age, sexual orientation and disability.




    FIELDS OF STUDY


    Mathematics


    Major subjects: general mathematics, algebra and geometry, theory of functions, theory of conform and disconform representation and their application in continuos media mechanics, differential equations, computing mathematics and informatics. Some courses may be taken in English


    Applied Mathematics


    Major subjects: mathematical modelling of technological, ecological, economic processes; the application mathematical methods in mechanics, acoustics, ecology, mathematical and software computing machines and systems, mathematical physics and economic cybernetics, geophysics.


    Physics and Technology


    Major subjects: theoretical physics; quantum mechanics; material for optical electronics; crystallochemistry and crystallography; laser engineering and technology; theory and technology of dielectrics, radiophysics and electronics, engineering in practical medicine and biology; physical informatics. Some courses may be taken in English and French.


    Biology


    Major subjects: botany; zoology; hydrobiology; ichthyology; genetics; microbiology; biochemistry; entomology, water bioresources and aquacultivation.


    Chemistry


    Major subjects: physical chemistry, electrochemistry; chemistry of water; chemical ecology; the analysis and certification of food product quality; the chemistry of rare earth; membrane processes and ion-exchange materials; pharmaceutical chemistry. Some courses are available in French.


    Geography


    Major subjects: physical and economic geography; geology; hydrology; geomorphology; biogeography; geodesy; mapping; international tourism and management.


    Economics


    Major subjects: accounting; sociology of labour and industrial production, auditing; management; finance; statistics; banking; world economics; marketing; economic theory; economic and mathematical methods and models. Some courses are available in English.


    Law


    Major subjects: state, civil, administrative, labour, economic, financial, criminal and other branches of law; criminology; political sciences and law.


    History, Sociology and International Relations


    Major subjects: ancient and medieval history; modern history; universal history; history of foreign countries; history of international relations; international relations in economics and politics, international law, archaeology; ethnology; sociology; the history of Kuban Cossacks; Hebrew; Arabic and Chinese; Korean and Japanese; philosophy.

    Fine Arts & Design


    Major subjects: graphic art; descriptive geometry and computer graphics, technical illustration; drawing; painting; applied art; design., architecture


    Management


    Major subjects: state and municipal management; political science; psychology.


    Social-Pedagogic Institute


    Major subjects: pedagogy and psychology, technology and undertaking, pre-school pedagogy and psychology, pedagogy and methods of teaching in primary school, social pedagogy, speech therapy, public relations.


    Russian Language


    Studying in Russia implies that almost all the lectures, laboratory works, examination tests and textbooks are in Russian. It follows that sufficient knowledge of Russian is required for successful study period in Russia. The university offers some special Russian courses:

    1-month's course - for advanced level
    3-month's course - for intermediate level
    10-month's course - for elementary level
    Approximately one quarter of the language course focuses on phonetics, one quarter - on grammar, half of the course is devoted to conversation and reading. Included in the language program is the course on Russian and Cossack culture, which explores the regional Cossack identity and its history and arts. Any Russian courses my vary in duration according to a student's wishes. At our University not only students can study but those who decided to do business in Russia. If you are a businessman, you can learn the course "Business Communication" in order to orientate yourself fluently in Russian business world. If you are a doctor, lawyer or, for example, a biologist you can be offered the special course of Russian that will give you the unique opportunity to look through investigations, researches and work experiences of Russian specialists.


    Programme Fees


    Approximate tuition fees are as follows (in USD):
    postgraduate program - 2600 - 3000 a year
    undergraduate program - 1700 - 1900 a year
    Full 10-month Russian language preparatory course:
    900 USD for each student if there are several students in a group
    250 USD a month if a student wants to have private lessons (or $ 3.5 per an hour)

    The program fee includes only tuition. Tuition fees may be increased annually according to inflation but not more than 10%.

    The insurance is not included in the price. It is necessary for a student to obtain such insurance for 80 USD

    The registration fee is $ 10 per student. Visa support is $ 30.


    Living Accommodation


    Students reside at Kuban State University in dormitory rooms. The dormitories are situated behind the main university building. They are up-to-date facilities and offer the opportunity to integrate into the University and interact closely with Russian students. The students live in separate apartments which consist of 4 rooms. One room is intended for 2-3 persons. The cost of dormitory is 200 USD per year. There is also a Homestay Program for students who wish to experience Russian family life. In this case a student should pay $ 20 a day (including two meals a day) The University cannot offer its assistance in finding accommodation in the private rented sector.

    For food-supplying the University has some cafeterias, student-canteen and bars. Students can do the shopping and cook their own meals that is possible with the facilities provided in the dormitories.


    Travel & Excursions


    According to the conditions of each individual contract, some excursions may be organized for additional fees. The University offers an extended trip to major cities and several local week-end excursions. Cities for travel may include Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sotchi, Novorossiysk, Taman and other places.

    In Moscow students can see the capital of the rejuvenated country, government building, historic neighbourhoods, churches and monumental exhibits.

    St. Petersburg offers a chance to explore the imperial treasures, lovely baroque palaces, the world-wide known Hermitage, the Russian Museum and the charming areas outside the city.

    Krasnodar itself has a lot places of interest. The city retains a strong regional identity as a center of Cossack culture, which remains alive through folk festivals and the renowned Kuban Cossack Choir.

    There are also some museums, art-galleries, concert halls, drama, music and ballet theatres, theatres for youth and children, and night-clubs in the city.

    Beyond Krasnodar and the beautiful countryside around it, students have been able to take advantage of their proximity to the Caucasus mountains and the Black Sea to visit historic sites and seaside resorts.

    Not far from Krasnodar, Sochi is one of the world's largest first-class resorts and presents bright sun and the warm water of the Black Sea along with Southern hospitality.

    Taman, a picturesque town of the Black Sea, has classical Greek sites and museums. One of them is devoted to a great Russian poet M. Lermontov, who spent in Taman just one night and described it in one of his works. Lermontov's festivals are held there annually on the date of the poet's birthday. The historical museum in Taman is famous for its unique collection of samples of primitive history and art.

    Students of the University are involved in an active cultural life. The Center of Cultural Leisure for Youth, which celebrated its 5-th anniversary in 1999, provides a wide range of opportunities to use one's potential and to reveal ones talents. It has a vocal group and the groups of ball and folk dancers. A lot of talented students and teachers are engaged in the University theatre.

    Those who want to attend English theatre are welcomed at the Department of Linguistics and Cross-Cultural Communication which also has a group of Scottish dancers in Kuban Land, that is a member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society.
