    The aims of this faculty are to create a modern academic structure at the international standards. This faculty prepares specialists for trials, prosecuters’ offices, bar, but also lawyers for certain institutions, or specialists in International relations (diplomacy, economics, commerce etc.) The chairs which functions within the Faculty of Law are: The Chair of Public Law and The Chair of Private Law.

    The subjects of study are those taught currently in the juridical education, and also subjects of great actuality and perspective, such as: Comparative Law, Community Law, Diplomatic and Consular Law, International Organizations etc. They enlarge the sphere of the professional options for the graduates.

    Within the analytical programs of the subjects a special interest is paid to the actual aspects of the international and internal legislation. The number of students is of 1800.

    The Faculty of Economics of PAU prepares economists in Finances-Contability. It is the only authorized faculty in the country which had this option, with a great openess, from a theoretical point of view as well as from a professional perspective. There are options for firms, banks, ensurance companies etc.

    There are 2 chairs in the Department of Economics: The Chair of Finances and the Chair of Contability. Within a year there are 9-12 subjects and other optional and facultative subjects.

    1800 students study at the Faculty of Economics.


    Faculty of Psychology and Social Assistance

    The faculty has a modern didactic curriculum of a European type. The essential objective of the Faculty of PSA is to prepare specialists in 2 domaines: psychology and social assistance. The graduates have double specialization and therefore, their chances of professional integration are greater..

    Chairs:

    –The Chair of Psychology and Pedagogy;
    –The Chair of Sociology and Social Assistance;
    –The Chair of Foreign Languages.

    The Objects are elaborated after a series of analytical programs after a Romanian and International Bibliography, they are evaluated by the credits criterion system which confer the possibility of being recognized in all European countries. 660 students study at this faculty.

    The Faculty of Politics

    A special attention is paid to the processes of governing and political communication on the background of the gap between the needs of the civil society and capacity of the state institutions of administrating the mechanisms of the social changes, of democracy and of the economic progress. .

    Objectives:
    – the preparation of specialists (advisers, counsellors, analysts etc.)
    – the preparation of a staff specialized for the non-governmental organizations
    – the preparation of the political analysts
    – the preparation of specialists capable of analysing and prognosing from a social and political perspective, political marketing studies, polls and lobby activities.

    The Faculty of Politics ensures the preparation of those 115 students after the European model of the faculties affiliated to the Transferable Credits System.




    About the University



    "Petre Andrei" University was founded in the academic year 1990 / 1991 within the framework of "Petre Andrei" Foundation. An outstanding personality of the Romanian Culture, the scholar Petre Andrei, whose censored work needs to be re-established, has been chosen the spiritual mentor of this institution.

    Academic Facilities

    A qualitative academic education requires first of all experienced professors and deserving students. But, at the same time it requires academic facilities in order to offer a solid practical base for study. PAU is very well known for its investments in information and real estate capacities. Besides its administrative and didactic buildings, it also has a -

    Library

    PAU Library contains almost 10.000 titles, in almost 20.000 volumes specialized in the following domaines: Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Economics, Politics, Informatics, History etc. The acquisition of "Constantin Nicuþã"collection of books (Constantin Nicuþã, university professor, Petre Andrei’s assistant) made also possible, besides the 4000 volumes which belong to the patrimony of the library, the acquisition of certain important manuscripts from Petre Andrei’s archive.

    The library subscribes to certain periodicals of speciality and now it has 71 subscriptions. The number has been increased since 1996/1997 with 30%. The library owns a recent collection of the following periodicals: Revue Roumaine des Sciences Juridiques, Sciences Humaines, Bussinesstech International, Celebration Nationales, Foreign Affairs, Politique Étrangère, Newsweek, The Economist, International Relations etc. An electronic service of selection permits the access to certain works. One can consult books both at home and at the library. The reading-room owns 100 desks and air-conditioning system. The students have access at the other municipal libraries, too, such as: "Mihai Eminescu" Central University Library,"Gheorghe Asachi" Library, the libraries of the German Cultural Centre, of the French Cultural Centre, of the British Council etc.

    Laboratories

    (1) The informatics laboratory– research, Internet: complete networks CAD, DTP, Internet. All students can have access, at demand, to Internet (www, ftp, e-mail).

    (2) Multimedia Laboratory: 9 multimedia computers, scanner, video, projection apparatus, Internet.

    (3)Informatics Laboratories - a network of 40 computers, printers, Whiteboards etc.

    (4) Criminology Laboratory - photo apparatus, photoaudio generator, relavating, conservation and indicating apparatus for finger prints, portable criminalogical case, albums for robot portraits.

    (5) Psychology Laboratory - a network of computers specialized in psychological examinations

    - multimedia apparatus

    Editorial Activity

    Under the aegis of "Petre Andrei" Academic Foundation, PAU coordonates a series of editorials, almost covering all humanistic sciences.

    PAU publishes certain periodicals:

    -The Year-book PAU, a scientific publication which encompasses the most outstanding works. The year-book is stuctured on three sections: Law, Economics, Humanistic Sciences, and reflects the results of the research activities developed by PAU. Because it obeys the international academic standards, the Year-book PAU is open to all representative works.
    -Ethos, a review of the philosophy of culture
    -PSI, student’s review of psychology, sociology, and political analysis
    -The Alumni Report, periodical of the PAU Graduates’ Forum

  • International Academic Cooperation

    PAU has established a series of contacts and initiated cooperation programs with numerous international academic bodies due to its informational mobility and scientific values.

    UNESCO: PAU contracted 11 research programs with UNESCO - The National Commission of Romania, on the theme "The Academic Liberties and the University Autonomy."
    There have been founded UNESCO clubs in Iasi, Piatra Neamþ, Focsani, Botoºani, Bacãu, initiated and supported by PAAF. PAU also founded, in collaboration with the Medical Center of Iaºi District, UNESCO Center in order to develop certain programs concerning the rights and protection of the child.
    Fédération Européene des Ecoles (FEDE), a Swiss non-profit Association, with a consultative status within the European Council. Among its objectives there is the protection of the education at all levels. FEDE coordonates the activity of its member-institutions and establishes the conditions for their qualification in order to be promoted on a European level. PAU has been its member since 1994.

    Institut des Professions des Affaires et du Comerce (IPAC). There is an exchange program of students and professors between IPAC and PAU and also a comparative study France-Romania of the economic legislation.

    Christ's Hospital – Community Service Group, Together with PAU organizes a program of mobility of the teaching staff from the juridical department.

    Eversince our University was founded, the young teaching staff has obtained, from certain institutions, study and research scholarships in USA, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium. PAU was represented abroad by outstanding people, and remarkable professors from abroad lectured at PAU.

    Students’ and Graduates’ Organizations

    The Association of the Students from "Petre Andrei" University (ASPA)
    Almost all PAU students are ASPA members. The aim of ASPA is to support the educational experience through a variety of social and academic programs, and also to offer the students the possibility to contribute to the administration of the university. ASPA initiated collaboration programs with certain student associations: "The Youth Group with a Juridical Career"(YGJC) and "The International Association of the Students in Economics"(IASE).

    Alumni ( PAU Graduates’ Club)
    PAU constitutes the place of the formation of a high professional competence and also an open environment of the human relationships. Both competence and friendship can be earned for a whole life! Alumni is the proper place where they can be developed. Any alumnus member, that is, any PAU graduate, can become a member of the club visiting the PAU Internet page. Moreover, PAU will include Forum Alumni, the PAU graduates’ review!
