About the University
The University of Oradea is one of the youngest Universities in Romania, being established in 1990, although the academic life has strong roots that goback in 1780. Oradea, the tenth largest town in Romania is situated on both the northern and southern banks of Crisul Repede River in the historic province known as Crisana. Higher education has continued to exist in various ways till 1948. In 1963, a Pedagogic Institute (3 years of study) was formed, which was later transforming into a High Education Institute. In 1990, the University that is having a very dynamic growth, was founded. Today, the University is a multidisciplinary research and education institution that has the mission to serve the regional and national development, to improve the potential of homan resources, to spread culture and civilization, to the progress of the society, in the spirit of peace, democracy and understanding amoung peoples. As a result of a very fast development, the University is a complex body, and offers academic diplomas in almost all the fields of study in the country: theology, pedagogy, medicine, economy, law, agriculture, engineering, environment. As a main functional entity of Romanian Higher Educaton System, The University is organized and operates on the academic autonomy principle.
