The University has four student halls of residence with total
number of 1748 places
100 places in the student halls of residence of Szczecin Technical
University, this, however , is far from satisfying the needs.
Foreigners studying at Szczecin University receive places in the halls of residence
only if they are given Polish Government grants (scholarships).

Fees
|
Full time studies for Polish students at Szczecin University are basically free of charge. The exception from this rule applies to students who prolong their studies, repeat subjects or are reactivated after being crossed out of the list of students, in such cases they are charged according to the prices set by the authorities of University.
Depending on the way of financing their studies, there are three categories of foreign students:
students given a Polish Government grant - free of tuition fees;
students not given a grant, but not paying tuition fee;
students studying on terms of hard-currency payment.
Foreign students studying on terms of hard - currency payment are required to pay tuition fee in amount depending on the course of studies. The minimum tuition fee for university studies is 2000 USD per academic year. Students studying at doctoral courses pay a fee of 3000 - 4000 USD.
The rector has the power to decrease tuition fees for foreigners of Polish origin.
Person not being Polish citizens, entering studies, postgraduate studies and doctoral studies on terms of hard-currency payment also have to pay a one-off non returnable registration fee of 200 USD.

Financial assistance
|
Full-time Polish students in difficult material conditions can receive following financial support:
social grants
social grants for disabled persons
subsidised meals in the students’ canteen
subsidised accommodation
welfare
Students having very good grades receive grants for good academic records.
Foreign students receive grants only if they are given Polish Government grants.
Foreign students, who want to study in Poland can apply for a Polish Government grant awarded by the Ministry of National Education (Ministry of National Education, Foreign Education Office, ul.Smolna 40,oo-940 Warszawa, tel.(+48 22)826 74 34, fax (+48 22)826 28 23).

Admission requirements
|
The condition of enrolment for Polish citizens is finishing the secondary school, passing the maturity examination , and complying with the recruitment requirements (different on each course of studies). Further information about the recruitment can be obtained from the particular Dean’ s Offices.
The candidates not being Polish citizens ,possessing the certificate of completion of the secondary school ,can address directly to the University or through the relevant Polish diplomatic agency to the Foreign Education Office of the Ministry of National Education. They do not have to pass the entrance examination. However , they have to submit the certificate confirming their knowledge of Polish language , or complete (before beginning studies) a course of Polish language for foreigners organised by some of the universities in Poland.
The lectures and classes at our University are held in Polish. Some of the students, however (studying Computer Science in English and German language groups)realise 50% of the course in English or German. The University also offers courses in German and Slavic philology, and courses for future language teachers at the Foreign Language College (where classes are held in languages relevant to the course of studies - German, Russian, English and French.

About the University
The Szczecin University has its origins in the Academy of Commerce (founded in 1946), the Faculty of Economics and Engineering of the Szczecin Technical University and the Higher School of Pedagogy. The University is the state - owned school. Since its founding the University continuously increases its research capabilities and the scale and range of education. In 13 years of its existence the number of students has risen from 5000 to 25 000 , taking courses at the following faculties:

Nestled between Poland, Germany and Scandinavia Szczecin University pays more and more attention to European integration and the issues concerning the Baltic Sea.
One of the basic goals of teaching at the Szczecin University is preparing the graduates for living in multicultural European Community and in the society of the information age, and also training specialists able to operate in united Europe.
The co-operation with foreign universities also contributes to this goal.
The natural (because of the proximity) and largest partners of the Szczecin University are German universities: Ernst Moritz Arndt University in Greifswald, Technical University in Berlin, Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, Viadrina European University in Frankfurt on the Oder, University in Rostock, Technical University in Dresden, Higher Vocational School in Dortmund, and Higher Vocational School in Wismar - with all these schools we have signed bilateral co-operation agreements. We also co-operate on bilateral basis with the University in Antwerpen (UFSIA), University in Caen, Marie and Pierre Curie University in Paris, University in Genoa, University in Riga, Odessa State University and South-Ukrainian Pedagogical University in Odessa. Within the framework of the TEMPUS Programme (six Joint European Projects overall, including three currently in progress) our partners are: University in Antwerpen, University in Athens, Higher Economic School in Amsterdam, Coventry Technical College, Metropolitan
University in Manchester, Stirling University, Higher Business School in Lisbon, Passau University and Giessen University.
An average of 250 academic workers and 200 students travel abroad every year for foreign practices, scientific scholarships and international conferences, and about 150 foreign scientists come to our University. Students take part mostly in semester studies and diploma practices (about 50 persons a year), but also in summer courses organised jointly with our foreign partners.
Starting from the academic year 1998/1999 Szczecin University will participate in SOCRATES/ERASMUS Programme
The Scientific University Publishers print scientific papers and teaching materials. The publications vary from dissertations and monographies to textbooks and extra teaching materials for students. They amount to 100 publications per year. The University also publishes its own periodical „The University Review".
The Main University Library is the largest and richest humanistic academic library in the region. The Library has extensive holdings of materials relevant to all University programmes. There are 1.111.325 volumes.
