About the MSc in Accounting and Finance

The MSc course in Accounting and Finance of the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) is a leading European postgraduate program which has been operating successfully since 2004. The program has been designed to offer high-quality specialized scientific knowledge in the fields of Accounting and Finance, focusing on current international developments in the area. The program is offered on both a full-time and a part-time basis. The one-year full-time program is designed for students who have recently graduated and seek to continue their studies at the postgraduate level, while the two-year part-time program meets the needs of business executives. For each of the abovementioned courses, students can major in one of the eight specializations offered:
  • Accounting
  • Management Accounting
  • Auditing
  • Tax Accounting
  • Finance
  • Banking & Risk Management
  • Investments & Wealth Management
  • Financial Engineering
The aim of the course is to foster a new generation of accounting and finance professionals capable of analysing the corporate challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the global financial environment. This aim is pursued by offering a modern, well-designed program that is based on varied teaching methods, which include study of the international literature, laboratory-supported lectures, case studies, individual and team project assignments, a thesis, and guest lectures by our executive visiting speakers. The University’s infrastructure also contributes to this aim, providing access to relevant scientific and professional journals, and also to databases that allow quick and effective access to information. Furthermore, the Department’s Laboratories, and the University library and Computer Centre, enable postgraduate students to study and carry out high-quality research.

In addition, we take pride in attracting the most motivated, highly achieving individuals who are looking to develop their research, analytical, conceptual and critical thinking skills to the highest level and become innovators in their chosen fields of expertise. Graduates of the Master’s Program in Accounting and Finance follow distinguished careers. They are highly employable and they work in positions such as accountants, directors of accounting departments, financial directors, auditors, financial analysts, and evaluators of investment projects, while some of them follow academic careers.

The M.Sc. program in Accounting and Finance was ranked among top 100 Programs internationally for 2012, 2013, 2014, as well as 2015, according to Best-Masters.Com, the survey carried out by Eduniversal.com, one of the most respectable European organizations for evaluating universities and higher education institutions all over the world. The ranking involved top postgraduate programs specialized in Financial and Auditing-Accounting studies (http://www.best-masters.com/index.php).

The M.Sc. program in Accounting and Finance has been recently recognized by The Institute of Internal Auditors (The IIA) (https://na.theiia.org/Pages/IIAHome.aspx) as one of The IIA Internal Audit Awareness Program Schools. Established in 1941 and headquartered in Florida (USA), The IIA is the leading international professional association for internal auditors with more than 180.000 members. The Internal Audit Academic Awareness Program was created to recognize the commitment and effort of universities that provide students with the information and skill sets necessary to choose an internal auditing career path.

We also take pride in our collaboration with the Masters in Advanced Studies and Financial Research of the Graduate School of Management IGR-IAE of the University of Rennes 1 (France). The agreement involves the exchange of two graduates per year between the collaborating parties, who will be given the opportunity to attend an additional masters program in the collaborating institution for free! Thus, the AUEB graduates selected each year will be awarded the Masters diploma in Advanced Studies and Financial Research of the University of Rennes 1, after the successful attendance of the relative masters’ program’s curriculum.

It is also worth mentioning that the Masters Degree in Accounting and Finance currently grants multiple exemptions for the ACCA and ACA (ICAEW) professional qualification. Check out the following links to find out more http://www.postgraduate-accfin.aueb.gr/Article.aspx?ArticleID=3854 and https://apps.icaew.com/cpldirectory/.

Last but not least the Masters program in Accounting and Finance has been recently accepted into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. This status is granted to institutions whose degree program incorporates at least 70% of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK), which provide students with a solid grounding in the CBOK and positions them well to sit for the CFA exams. The program is thus entitled to award up to five (5) CFA Program Awareness Scholarships to students each fiscal year as detailed in the Awareness Scholarship Official Rules. Last but not least, studying for an MSc in Greece affords international students the opportunity to acquaint and familiarize themselves with a beautiful environment that blends a long tradition of excellence in commerce with a robust academic curriculum, within a dynamic modern economy. Studying at AUEB will surely prove to be a great experience for all international students, who are encouraged to make the most out of it! Whether students participate in computer-backed courses, attend lectures by business executives and leaders, or just experience the Mediterranean way of life and cuisine, it is certain that their studies in the Master’s Program in Accounting and Finance program will turn out to be an unforgettable, life altering experience!
