Major field of research Fine Arts, Decorative Arts and Design The first Superior School of Fine Arts in Cluj was founded in 1926. At the time of its foundation, the School was composed of three departments, i.e., Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Art. The board of teacher was constituted of artists with European reputation, well-known characters of the Romanian art-history: Alexandru Popp, Pericle Capidan, Catul Bogdan, Aurel Ciupe and Eugen Pascu. In 1932 the Superior School of Fine Arts moves from Cluj to Timisoara and remains there till the end of World War II. After the war the institution of art is reestablished at Cluj being composed of two faculties: one of Fine and Decorative Arts and one of Music and Theater. In 1971 a new specialization, the Industrial Design is added to the institution. In 1990 The "Ioan Andreescu" Institute of Fine Arts changes its name to "Ioan Andreescu" Academy of Visual Arts and renews its structure by establishing two other departments: Art Pedagogy and Art of Photography. In 2001 the university changed its name to The University of Art and Design. At the moment, there are two faculties: the Faculty of Fine Arts with six specializations and the Faculty of Decorative Arts and Design with three specializations, so there are nine specializations in all. The studies last four years at each specialization: one year (2 semesters) of basic studies, three (6 semesters) of specialized studies and there is an additional postgraduate programme of 2 years (4 semesters). Here is a synthetic scheme of our Academy's actual structure: The Faculty of Fine Arts 1. Painting 2. Mural Painting and Conservation-Restoration 3. Graphic Art 4. Sculpture 5. Art Pedagogy 6.
