About the Academy
The National Academy of Physical Education and Sports was founded in 1922 and has been functioning without interruption up now.
It is a state institution accredited by the Romanian legislative forums for the activity in higher education, the diplomas conferred by the ANEFS being acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and Research in Romania and also by other countries with which Romania has signed international protocols.
Physical education in Romania obtained, in 1922, its state official organizing, with the founding of the National Office of Physical Education and of the National Institute of Physical Education with two sections: a) the university civilian section - National Institute of Physical Education; b) the university military section.
From the very beginning, the civilian section had the status of a higher education institution, due to the direct support of Bucharest University.
In 1926, it was organized the licence examination for the first promotion. On the basis of the norms approved by the Ministry of Instruction, following the examination, graduates were conferred their diploma of bachelor of physical education.
In 1929, The National Institute of Physical Education was divided into two parts: 1) the Higher Institute of Physical Education, and 2) the Military Institute of Physical Education.
On May 17, 1932, a new law issued, concerning the organizing of the Higher Institute of Physical Education in Romania. The institute becomes autonomous.
Starting with 1937, the Higher Institute of Physical Education was named the National Academy of Physical Education, and presently its name is the National Academy of Physical Education and Sports.
Nowadays, the ANEFS has its own didactic bases, such as: the Didactic Basis in Eforie Nord (on the Black Sea coast) for swimming and water sports courses, with a capacity of 150 students a series, as well as the Didactic Basis in the Parang mountains (altitude: 1,600 m, in the Southern Carpathians) for skiing and scouting, with a capacity of 200 students a series.
Within the ANEFS, there is an Interdisciplinary Research Lab, a stimulating factor for researching sports performance activities. All the findings are published in the ANEFS magazine named "Discobolul".
Our Academy has a specialized library, comprising 134,898 books and 11,742 periodical publications (a total of 146,640 titles). At the same time, the Academy has its own publishing house.
