    About Maria Curie-Sklodowska University

The University was founded in 1944. It was named after the great Polish scientist – Maria Curie-Sklodowska. Originally it consisted of four faculties: Medical Faculty, Agricultural Faculty, Veterinary Faculty, and the Faculty of Natural Sciences. Within the next three months the Faculty of Pharmacy was founded. The first opening ceremony was held on 14 January 1945. Since that time some of the faculties were separated from the University to form new universities: Medical Academy, Agricultural Academy and Technical University. The University has consistently expanded its structure, adapting to the growing academic standards as well as to the demands of changing social conditions. In 1969 the University opened a new branch in Rzeszów with the Faculty of Law and Administration and the Faculty of Economics, both closely connected with respective faculties in Lublin. Currently, it offers an extensive range of education possibilities in ten.faculties.

The majority of the University departments are situated on the University Campus - a picturesque and architecturally interesting district of Lublin. The University boasts modern and well-equipped lecture rooms, laboratories, and faculty offices as well as Main Library and a network of faculty libraries.

The University offers extensive students` facilities including halls of residence, a canteen, and a clinic.

An important part of life of the academic community is student culture and important place for the development of student culture is the Academic Culture Centre "Chatka Zaka". Many artistic and creative groups are based in "Chatka Zaka" amongst them are: the Folk Dance Ensemble, The Jadwiga Czerwinska Academic Choir, the "Studyjne" Cinema, the Film Club Bariera, the Impetus Ballroom Dancing Group, St Nicholas Orchestra, Poetic Theatre, the "Szuflada" Theatre, "Akme" Ballet Group, "Kont" Gallery, the Photographic Club, and the Artistic Workshop. Academic Radio "Centrum" is one of the few academic radio stations in Poland that broadcast a 24-hour programme. The University Sports Club AZS UMCS offers a comprehensive choice of sports and recreational facilities in the Academic Sports Centre. Our University has The Polish Language and Culture Centre for Polish People from Abroad and Foreigners. The Centre offers a variety of forms of study, programmes can be adjusted to individual needs and expectations in terms of time, duration and contents.
