Date of commencement | The Winter semester begins on 1 October and extends until the end of January, with the Christmas and New Year break. The Summer semester begins in mid-February, after the semester break, and extends until the last week of June, with a short break for Easter holidays. |
Class size | The maximum number of students who can study within the Programs is 30, but the class size is usually about 15. |
Accommodation | The Institute of Political Science will have to its disposal about 10 rooms in a student hotel for students studying within the Programme. |
Fees | Tuition fees cover the cost of participation in the program and have been set for the academic year 2012/2013 at 1,750 euros per semester for the first year students from the EU/EFTA countries and at 1,950 euros per semester for the first year students from outside the EU/EFTA area. In the second year of studies the tuition fee amounts to 1,600 euros and 1,925 euros per semester respectively. |
Exchange partner schools | Institute of Political Science co-operates with many foreign universities. Within the Erasmus Program it has signed agreements with about 50 universities from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and United Kingdom (selected students of the Master’s Degree Studies in Political Science can study one semester at one of these universities). The Institute has also signed the agreement with the University of Konstanz in Germany on the double diploma. |

Political parties and state institutions, local governments and schools of higher education, banks and offices, companies and media, the diplomatic service and international organisations all require employees with Political Science diploma. |

1. Ratio of National / Overseas students -
Candidates are first of all foreign students from outside the EU/EFTA area. However, about 35% of candidates are from the EU/EFTA countries, including Poland.
2. Ratio of Men / Women - The number of male and female candidates are similar (however, it depends on a year of studies). 3. Age - from 23 to 45. |
Master's Degree Studies in Political Science are addressed primarily to the persons with a Bachelor's degree awarded upon completion of a Bachelor's degree program (undergraduate studies) in Poland or elsewhere. The Program is fee-paying. The language is English. The courses within the studies are both theoretical and practical (as "Political Communication" based on simulations and games or “Art of Negotiation”). The particular emphasis is placed on issues concerning the European integration as well as Poland and East Europe. Our students apart from regular courses take part actively in the academic life, participating in different political science associations; conferences, debates and lectures of distinguished guests from all over the world invited often by our university as well as social events. Thanks to knowledge and skills developed during our studies they win scholarships and awards within different competitions, e.g. for the best foreign students in Poland.
Graduates of Master's Degree Studies in Political Science will acquire the intellectual qualifications necessary for analysing political problems from an international perspective. Thanks to skill building activities provided during courses, they will be well trained in the art of communication, negotiation and persuasion. In order to receive a Master's degree, the graduates will be required to write a Master’s thesis and pass the examination.
The curriculum provides for 195 hrs of instruction in
compulsory subjects, 4 exams and 2 credit/grade. 27 ECTS credits to be
obtained.
The curriculum provides for 225 hrs of instruction in
compulsory subjects, 5 exams and 2 credit/grade. 33 ECTS credits to be
obtained.
The curriculum provides for 240 hrs of instruction in
compulsory subjects, 4 exams, 2 credit/grade and 1 credit course. 29 ECTS
credits to be obtained.
The curriculum provides for 150 hrs of instruction in
compulsory subjects, 3 exams, 2 credit/grade. 31 ECTS credits to be obtained. Entry Requirements In order to apply for admission apart from fluent English candidates should meet one of the following conditions: a. hold the Bachelor’s degree in any area of studies in Poland or elsewhere, b. hold the Master’s degree in any area of studies, in Poland or elsewhere Documents to be supplied by candidates General documents: 1. High school diploma (first the copy, original after the admission) 2. One of the two documents (first the copy, original after the admission) certifying: a. Bachelor’s degree in any area of studies in Poland or elsewhere, b. Master’s degree in any area of studies, in Poland or elsewhere Foreign diplomas must be authenticated by appropriate authorities in the country of a candidate (Apostille or legalization), translated into Polish by a sworn translator and certified in Poland if needed (it depends on country). 3. Institute’s application form filled in by the candidate 4. Copy of the passport/identity card page with the photograph, certified by the University of Warsaw 5. Four photographs of the candidate 6. Written commitment to regular payment of tuition fees 7. Certificate confirming the knowledge of English, i.e. TOEFL, AC, IELTS. A candidate who does not have possibility to present any certificate of English language proficiency is required to submit an essay written in English (between 1,000 and 1,500 words) on European Union issues. Please note that you do not need to submit language test certificates if you are a native speaker, English is an official language in your country, you received your education in English at some stage of your educational career, participated in the exchange program where courses were taught in English, English was the language of instruction at your academic or secondary institution or you are an European student who studied English successfully during the secondary and/or higher education. Photocopy of entry visa or any other document confirming candidate's residence in the territory of Poland (after candidate's arrival to Poland) Internet Registration of Candidates - IRK Candidates should register on-line (https://irk.uw.edu.pl/osoby.php?op=insert&lang=en), fill in an application form and pay a non-refundable application fee. Application process Candidates will be qualified on the basis on the documents submitted until all places have been filled. The decision made by the Institute of Political Science must be accepted by the Rector of the University of Warsaw in case of students outside the EU/EFTA. When the number of students exceeds the limit (i.e. 30 persons), the additional procedure will be conducted. The candidates will have to prove their English knowledge as well as the general knowledge of subjects included in the program of studies, writing an essay on the political science issues. Institute of Political Science at University of Warsaw was founded in 1967 – initially as a part of the Philosophy Faculty. Currently, the Institute operates in the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science. The Institute is the oldest, largest and – for several years – has been rated the best of all political science centres in Poland. As such, it provides teaching and research of the highest standard. The Institute has undergone voluntary academic audit procedures and has received the Teaching Quality Certificate from the University Accreditation Committee. The teaching includes political science studies in the following programs: BA and MA studies, postgraduate studies, doctoral studies and two-year Master's degree studies in English. There are also BA and MA studies as well as postgraduate studies in the internal security. The Institute employs over 80 academic staff. It is an exceptional team of scholars who have had a long experience in teaching at the Polish universities, mainly in Warsaw. They also deliver lectures as visiting professors at many universities abroad. They do research on many interesting subjects, e.g. Poland and Germany in the EU, political parties’ system and constitutional system in Poland, parliamentary system in Central East Europe countries, European integration, Western democracies, Balkan states and transformation in the states of Central Asia and Transcaucasus, very often in co-operation with other European universities. They also prepare expert opinions for many Polish and European public institutions, working on the projects of the new Polish laws and commenting on the current political events.
