    The ten-semester program in English leads to the M.Sc degree in Architecture and Architectural Engineering (Dipl.Ing.Arch.) but it is possible to stop at the B.Sc. level, after 4 years.

    With wide range of complex design and elective subjects in three main directions: - Structural Design – buildings and other structures. Architectural Design – buildings with different functions, their interiors and surroundings, the preservation of historical buildings. Town Planning – urban design, settlement planning and management.

    Faculty of Civil Engineering

    The engineering program in English leads to a B.Sc. degree in four years, in the Branch of Structural Engineering. The branch offers specific educational objectives: Graduates from the Branch of Structural Engineering create engineering structures by utilizing and designing structural materials. They are expected to design, construct and organize the investments of mechanically, structurally and technologically complex structures in cooperation with architects and transport and hydraulics specialists.

    Future structural engineers who graduate from this branch will be able to design and construct, among other things, flyovers and underground passageways for traffic networks; power stations, cooling towers, craneways, transmission line structures and TV towers; halls, storehouses, industrial plants, and multi-storey buildings as well as hydraulic engineering and water supply structures.

    Seven-semester B.Sc. Programs in Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering with specialisations of Info-communication, Power Engineering, Embedded and Controller Systems in EE and Information Technologies and Infocommunication Networks in SE. Four-semester M.Sc. Programs in: Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Microelectronics and Technology, Power Engineering, and Business Analytics. Ph.D. Programs are available in all major tracks offered by the Faculty.

    Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

    Seven-semester B.Sc. degree in specialization of Process Engineering, and four-semester M.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering Modelling. On B.Sc. level strong mathematical, mechanical, and material background and practice-oriented professional subjects figure the mechanical engineering knowledge. In the M.Sc. course 2 modules of the possible 6 (1. Solid Mechanics, 2. Fluid Mechanics, 3. Thermal Engineering, 4. Design and Technology, 5. Industrial Electronics, 6. Robotics) are allowed to choose which typically require the efficient modelling in order to access the continuously developing methods of computational engineering. Graduated students may enter for individual Ph.D. courses in the actual topics announced on the University website.

    4 ENERGY WEEKS (4EW)
    Summer Course

    Key notions: 4EW is a healthy composition of professional elements, academic requirements and leisure time activities with a remarkably favourable budget in a very good geographical location, close to major European points of interests. Current status of the environment (locally-globally) especially in Hungary and Europe; energy production, energy crisis, environmental protection aspects; practicals; laboratory measurements, etc. Environmental problems. Renewable energy.

    Timing and duration: 4 weeks (18 June -15 July, 2012)

    About the University



    Short History: 1782: Insitutum Geometricum Hydrotechnicum founded to educate engineers in the field of land survey, river control and road construction. 1860: Royal Joseph Polytechnic, Hungarian as language of instruction (after Latin). 1901: Royal Joseph University: Doctoral degree. 1949: Technical University of Budapest with five engineering faculties. 1984: Instruction offered in English as well as Hungarian. 1987: Faculty of Natural and Social Sciences established. 1987: International Education Center established. 1991: Undergraduate Programs introduced in French and German. 1997: Open and Distance Learning Center established. 1998: Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences and Faculty of Natural Sciences established.2000: The name of the university changed to Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

    Several Nobel Prize recipients have been associated with the Budapest University of Technology and Economics: Dennis Gábor (Physics), George Hevessy (Chemistry), Eugene Wigner (Physics), György Oláh (Chemistry) and János Harsányi (Economics). Further notable personalities have also studied or taught at the University: Edward Teller, nuclear physicist, Leo Szilárd known on his work on nuclear chain reactions, Marcell Breuer architect, Theodore Kármán aerodynamic scientist, Ernő Rubik, inventor of the famous cube, Donát Bánki, co-inventor of the carburetor, Károly Zipernowszky, one of the inventors of the transformer, Dénes Mihály, one of the inventors of television.

    The first part of the present Campus along the Danube was built between 1892 and 1898. Based on UNESCO declaration this building ensemble has been part of the World Heritage since 1987. Further parts of the campus were built after the I. and II. World War including academic buildings, nuclear training reactor, student hostels and cafeterias. The Southern Campus is under construction; the new building of informatics (I) and an interesting piece of modern public building architecture (Q) have either been completed or close to completion. A few buildings of another university of Budapest, the University of Science (ELTE) is also located in the same area , together with different new academic buildings, the Inforpark buildings and sports facilities. The Central Library of the University houses 450.000 books and 120,000 volumes of professional journals. At the same time the Library has a strong technical reference section with free access to materials and the ALEPH integrated system, reading and research rooms and on-line access to international databases.

    The University has an extensive computer network that is organised, co-ordinated and developed through the Department of Telecommunications and Informatics (TIO). TIO operates and develops the campus backbone network also providing global Internet connectivity and direct access to research and education networks worldwide. Students, professors and researchers can access the network from the departmental networks, or from WLAN hot-spots around the campus. The student residences are also connected to the university network with high speed links.

    Besides the university-wide data network, computing services include e-mail, UNIX shell accounts, PC rooms, access to various research databases and scientific journals. A professional-grade video conference station is also available for professors and researchers, as well as supercomputers (operated by NIIF/Hungarnet, the Hungarian research network organisation).

    Research at the University as a long-standing tradition is highly encouraged and occurs on all levels from the B.Sc. to the doctoral level. The research is both cooperative and individual, scientific and industrial, national and international. The Budapest University of Technology and Economics has several well-established research relationships with Western European universities. At the same time the university fosters an extensive series of long-established relationships with various branches of industry. Basic research projects are supported by the National Scientific Research Fund. The students are encouraged to participate in scientific research activities that will prepare them to do independent work as engineers after graduation. Project Laboratory Courses are part of Faculty Curricula, requiring students to do individual design work, usually in the second year of the B.Sc. studies. If a student has performed exceptionally well, research may as well be part even of the first year.

    The University has entered into agreement of co-operation with about 80 universities in Europe, USA and other overseas countries. Some of these ventures are research-oriented while others include the exchange of faculty and students. The University also operates direct students exchange network and welcomes students year by year from the University of Technology, Sydney, the University of New Hampshire (USA), the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Chongju University (South Korea), Technical Universities of Denmark, Delft, Helsinki, Norway, Vienna and the University of Karslruhe. Various mobility programs of the European Union have been playing an important role in strengthening and building up relationships through the ERASMUS Projects.

    The Students' International Union was formed in 1990 to create an international family, providing environment where students are encouraged to pursue their academic work and also participate in social and recreational activities. The Club has also sought the right to represent its members and other students before the university administration and in matters that affect them as students of the university.
