Master of Science in Engineering - Applied Measurement Science NO TUITION FEE for 2 years for all students admitted in 2008!+scholarship for academically best This 2-year interdisciplinary programme prepares specialists for quality assurance laboratories, inspection, certification and accreditation agencies in various industries, bridging the gap between physical and chemical measurements, metrology and related economic and legal aspects. Gaining practical experience through internship placement is part of the programme. Master of Arts in Social Sciences – Baltic Studies This 2-year interdisciplinary programmes has options to specialize in: • Baltic Studies • Media and Communication • Business Administration Completion of this degree gives access to academic research in doctoral studies and careers in the public or private sector. Master of Arts in Social Sciences - European Union-Russian Studies This 2-year programmes has options to specialize in EU studies or Russian studies. Master of Arts in Humanities – Foreign Language UT offers master level programmes in several foreign languages: • English Language and Literature (in English) • German Language and Literature (in German) • Russian and Slavonic Philology (in Russian) • Scandinavian Languages (in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish) • Estonian and Finno-Ugric Linguistics (in Estonian, Finnish and Hungarian) • Romance Languages and Literature (in French and Spanish) ) Master of Science in Natural Sciences – Financial and Actuarial Mathematics This 1-year programme prepares specialists in quantitative methods of risk assessment and hedging for the financial sector, banking and insurance companies. It provides knowledge and skills in two major areas – mathematics of derivative pricing and actuarial (insurance) mathematics. Prerequisites: four years of university studies completed prior to application. Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programmes: University of Tartu teaches 1-year module of these 2-year programmes, in cooperation with other European Universities NordSecMob - Security and Mobile Computing IMESS – International Master in Economy, State and Society Doctoral Studies The University of Tartu boasts six Centres of Research Excellence, of which two are also European Commission Centres of Excellence: - UT Institute of Physics - Centre of Behavioural and Health Sciences - Centre of Excellence in Basic and Applied Ecology - Centre of Molecular and Clinical Medicine - Centre of Excellence in Gene and Environmental Technology - Centre of Excellence in Chemistry and Materials Science These high-level research units conduct world-renowned research and are closely connected with doctoral studies. More than 60% of the doctoral theses completed in Estonia each year are defended at UT. There are 900 doctoral students studying and conducting research at the University. Completion of an average of 160 credits over four years of study is required for completion of the doctoral programme. |

European Union Studies The programmeme focuses on the political, legal and economic aspects of the constantly developing European Union. Highlighted are the history of making the EU as well as the dynamic interrelation between the supra-national and the intergovernmental character of the European Institutions. Eastern European Studies This programmeme focuses on the current political, socio-economic and cultural changes in the region, the connection between Russian and European history, theories and practices of democratic and market- oriented transformations in Russia and Eastern Europe. Politics and Society of the Baltic States This programmeme is focused on political matters, analysing different societies in the region from historical as well as contemporary perspective. The Baltic Sea Region consists of 10 countries and is one of the most economically dynamic, technologically advanced and culturally diverse region in Europe. The following modules will broaden your academic knowledge and practical proficiency about the matters of the Baltic Sea Region. History and Culture of the Baltic States This programmeme is designed around cultural issues which are interconnected with society, religion and social identities of the BSR. The Estonian context of the programme is emphasised by language and culture courses that focus more narrowly on issues in Estonian cultural space. Business and Administration This programmeme is for students interested in developing their business and administration skills in the context of Europe and the Baltic Sea Region, which in today’s world is an inevitable part of successful business management. Students of this programmeme can take any course from Baltic Studies. Russian Language, Literature, Culture The programmeme is for students with a good level of Russian who want to improve their command of the language and broaden their understanding of Russian culture and history. Instruction is in Russian. Creation of the Rule of Law Society in Post-Communist Europe This programmeme is focused on dynamic aspects of sweeping transitions carried out in Estonia in a relatively short period of time, and offers insights into European traditions of human rights, rule of law and marketplace economics from the perspective of a society faced with the daunting challenge of filling the void left from the collapse of communism. |

There are eight student dormitories at the Student Village of the University of Tartu. All international students are accommodated in modern dorms in the centre of town. Double rooms start at 100 EUR per person per month (plus utilities). In addition to housing costs, students need to plan on spending 160-200 EUR a month on food and basic living expenses. |

Other faculties and colleges of the University of Tartu currently only offer full degrees or semester studies with Estonian as the official language of instruction. Founded in 1632, the University of Tartu has almost 18 000 students and is famous for research-based education and lively student traditions. Estonia offers a unique perspective on the successful transition to democracy and recent accession to the EU.
