About the Master of HIV

The Master of HIV is the first education ever that combines teaching in clinical and organisational management of HIV. The master's degree programme in HIV sets out to provide students with the state-of-the-art public health and clinical HIV knowledge, skills and competences that will allow them to engage on the labour market with expertise that rests on a scientific foundation.

The objective is that the student upon graduation will be able to:
    a) contribute on a scientific background and at an academic level to the improvement in treatment and care of PLHIV

    b) participate in the planning, execution and evaluation of preventive and sustainable measures based on accepted policies and standards

    c) analyse HIV-related issues including the individual, social, cultural and political context

    d) participate in quantitative and qualitative HIV research. The Masters focus is on HIV in an international perspective, however, because of the complex interplay between HIV, other diseases and their management teaching is generic and cross-disciplinary.
The one-year flexible programme includes courses in: Epidemiology, HIV Prevention, Treatment and Care; Health systems & HIV; Virology & immunology; Sexual & Reproductive Health; Policy & Organisational Management etc. Students choose between 2 lines of specialisation: The Biomedical line or The Policy and Organisational Management line. There will be opportunities for practical experience in the laboratory, clinical teaching at the bed-side and in out-patient clinics, visits to patients organisations and a trip to eastern or central Europe..
