Durham University is the third oldest in England, after Oxford and Cambridge and is established on the same collegiate basis. Durham has maintained its leading role among universities through its unswerving dedication to the pursuit of excellence in all fields.
Established in 1965, the Durham Business School has developed an international reputation for its innovative approaches to business education and enterprise development. It is an integral part of the University and maintains a close relationship with business and commerce.
The activities of the Business School have recently been integrated with the departments of Economics and Finance and the Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprise Development to form a new Business School. This provides a larger multi-disciplinary School. Faculty specialisms include Strategy, Organisational Behaviour, Public Policy, Entrepreneurship, Finance and Management.
The Durham MBA, an internationally recognised qualification, offers candidates the opportunity to extend their abilities beyond the field of their specialised knowledge and experience, and develop their skills further in a broad business environment. It is offered in various forms to match the varied development needs of managers and so to assist their career development.
The Distance Learning MBA, introduced in 1988, is one of very few distance learning programmes accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA). It is a pure distance learning programme that requires no attendance at tutorials and only attendance at residential seminars; all the materials and textbooks required to undertake the degree are delivered to the student, regardless of location world-wide. It is highly flexible, allowing students to relocate or to extend the study period.
Student support is provided by Subject Tutors, to whom assignments are submitted and who are available to provide academic advice. Communication can be by post, fax or e-mail. For the Project a Supervisor is appointed to provide guidance. The programme is wholly administered from a dedicated office within the Business School.
The Distance Learning MBA Programme is a modular Programme and can be completed in 2 years at a rate dependant on the number of modules selected for study and successful assessment. There is a flexible order of study and sensible time limits for completion.
Examinations are held in June and December and may be taken in the UK or at any of over 100 approved overseas centres.
There are two alternative entry routes:
Application may be made at any time during the year, with an appropriate choice of initial examination date (June or December). Evidence is required of competence in English, normally through an approved test.
