    Apart from the traditional MPhil and PhD programmes the School also offers the Doctor of Engineering (EngD) programme in Environmental Technology which is sponsored by the EPSRC, and New Route PhD programmes in Electronic and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering.     Information about the School

    The School of Engineering and Design is one of the largest and most successful engineering and design Schools in the UK, providing a wide range of exciting, forward-looking undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Recognised as a centre of excellence in engineering and design with a strong focus on modern science and technology, the School has an international reputation in research and prides itself on high quality teaching supported by excellent research facilities. In The Times Good University Guide in 2007 Brunel General Engineering and Design was rated in the top 10 in the country.

    In the current Research Assessment Exercise, Mechanical and General Engineering scored a grade 5 and Design a grade 4 out of a possible 5 star. Many undergraduate courses are accredited with UK professional organisations including the IMechE, the IET and the Institute of Engineering Designers. Some of the IT related programmes may also apply for membership of the British Computer Society. A number of postgraduate courses enjoy accreditation and approval status with, for instance, the IMechE and CIBSE and other courses are in the process of seeking accreditation.

    The School’s high reputation has led to extensive collaborative links with industry. These links and the sandwich placement scheme have meant that the School’s graduates are highly sought after as employees.
