education: Primary education lasts for
five years. Lower secondary education is provided by three types of schools:
Oberschule (4 years) , Realschule 4 years), and Gymnasium (3 years). A lower
secondary school Certificate is issued to those who have successfully completed
the four-year programme. Students in the Gymnasium have to attend an additional
year in one of the other schools or in the upper level of the Gymnasium.Upper
secondary education is provided by the Gymnasium which offers 5 profiles:
Lingua, New Languages, Art/Music/Education, Economics/Law, Mathematics/Science.
After completion, students have to take the Matura examination and obtain the
Matura Certificate which is recognized for university entrance by Switzerland,
Austria, and the University of Tubingen in Germany. Higher
education: Higher education is provided by
the Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences) and the Internationale
Akademie für Philosophie (International Academy for Philosophy ). Main

Berufsmittelschule: The
Berufsmittelschule lasts for four terms. The final examination leads to the
Berufsmatura Certificate. Its holders are admitted to universities and
technical colleges. University level studies: University
level first stage: Bachelor: The Fachhochschule Liechtenstein confers a
Bachelor of Science in Architecture, Economics, Business information Systems and a Bachelor of Business
Administration following five to six terms of study.At the International
Academy for Philosophy studies lead to the Baccalaureus der Philosophie. University
level second stage: Master: At the Fachhochschule, Master's degrees are
conferred in Architecture and Economics, Commercial Information Technology and
Business Information Systems after three, four or five terms of study. At the
Academy, a Magister der Philosophie is conferred. University
level third stage: Doctor: At the International
Academy for Philosophy, graduates of the Magister may study for a Doctorate.
Studies comprise two more terms. Teacher education: Training
of secondary school teachers Since Liechtenstein
does not have its own teacher training establishments, training takes place
abroad. Teacher diplomas from Switzerland, Austria and Germany are recognized

system is characterized by the teaching traditions and school systems of the
neighbouring German-speaking countries: Switzerland, Austria and Germany. The
majority of Liechtenstein's teachers are trained in Austria. The types of
school and educational terminology are therefore largely the same as in other
German-speaking countries. Differences exist only in the details of the
