Sunderland Business School uniquely includes Business & Management, Law and Psychology as subject disciplines. The School has a total student population of about 2500, plus students that take distance undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at home and overseas locations.
In terms of total numbers undergraduate Business & Management provision remains the largest area in the School, however, the fastest growing areas are for postgraduate and corporate/work based programmes. The Business School has established links with industry, commerce and the public sector through an enhanced, relevant and up-to-date curriculum. Teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels very much reflects our philosophy of equipping students for the world of work, and, for those students that can, we encourage them to take a placement. For those students that are interested in starting their own businesses all our business courses provide our students with the request basic skills. But we also provide additional support through our New Ventures programmes and the Hatcheries that we operate for those students with a 'real' business idea that they wish to develop.
In total the School comprises 120 staff including 90 academic staff members each of which belongs to a specialist subject team. The teams include Strategy and International Management, Planning & Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Law and Psychology. Our staff are actively engaged with research, consultancy and corporate work and we have this year introduced a new short course programme for those that work in both the public and private sectors that want further insight, or to update themselves, in a specific subject area.
All of the foregoing emphasises the School's strategy of concentrating on what we do best which is to firmly link our programmes and developments to the world of work through our work based and lifelong learning awards.
