Admission requirements To be able to study at university level you will need to have a good command of English for writing, speaking, listening and reading. We require satisfactory evidence of your ability in the language and unless your previous education and examination qualifications have been in the English language, you should also possess one of the following English language qualifications as a minimum

  • British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test: overall band score of 6.0 although some Schools of Study require 6.5

  • American College Board and Education Testing Service's full Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): score of 550 (paper-based test), 213 (computer-based test) with a score of 4.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); although some School of Studies require 575/230

There is no formal closing date for the receipt of applications, but it is advisable to apply by 1st March; competition for places and awards can be substantial and later applicants may have less chance of success.

    About University of East Anglia

Founded in 1963 the University of East Anglia ‘UEA’ is a beautiful campus University, only 90 minutes or so from London located in the medieval city of Norwich - not unlike Oxford without tourists! Comprising eighteen Schools of Study, UEA enjoys an international reputation (the 2001 Nobel Prize winner in Medicine - Sir Paul Nurse is a Ph.D Biology graduate) in diverse areas: film studies, creative writing and the pioneering groupings for which we are famous, such as environmental sciences, development studies and world art studies. Degree courses cover a broad spectrum, including natural sciences, social sciences and the arts.

UEA is part of the Norwich Research Park, Europe’s largest Research Centre in Biology and Plant sciences. We also have an excellent reputation in the arts, particularly through our links with the literary world and our Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. UEA has an Ivy League rating (top ten in the official British Government academic rankings) in most areas of teaching and research. Of 9,200 full-time students 1,700 are international (from over 100 countries) many with generous tuition-fee scholarships from the UEA International Scholarship Fund.

The University of East Anglia provides many international students with up to 50 per cent tuition fee scholarships each year through the International Scholarship Fund. Up to 100 such scholarships are awarded of between £2,000 and £5,000 each year. Outstanding candidates will be considered for enhanced scholarships. Scholarships are only awarded to those students holding an offer of a place (an acceptance letter) on a course at the University
