On a Direct Learning homestay course you live and learn English more intensively than in a language class and make the best possible progress in a limited time. You have 3-5 hours one-to-one English lessons every day and are immersed in the language at all times. You are the personal guest of your private teacher – this relationship encourages learning and you become much more confident in English very quickly!
Detailed needs analysis gives us a clear idea of linguistic level and requirements. Each course is planned and course materials are chosen individually, exactly tailored to the client's needs and interest. The course is designed to be flexible in order to adapt to changing needs and incorporate business and personal projects. All Direct Learning teachers are qualified and experienced in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Direct Learning are a member of ABLS (Association of British Language Schools), with an annual inspection.
Direct Learning have a network of teachers in Bath and Bristol, both very attractive, historic cities with a wealth of cultural sights and events and an ideal starting point for excursions to the beautiful South West.
Homestay courses for younger learners are also available with the same features as the adult ones. Teenagers are placed in families with children of a similar age and the leisure programme is geared towards younger students' interests.
All Direct Learning homes offer accommodation and full board of a high standard with a well-educated, cultured family background. The client’s time outside the lessons is spent with the teacher and family in a customised leisure programme. The teacher accompanies the client on daily outings, arranges evening entertainment and visits to cultural events, e.g. dinner parties, concerts, theatre, sports events etc. The leisure programme is geared towards the client's interests and hobbies and we choose a teacher/family with similar interests, hobbies and age wherever possible. Thus teaching carries on all day and the lesson content is actively consolidated. Many interesting contacts are made through the teacher's social and professional network.
The teacher completes a daily record form for lessons and social activities, while the client completes a confidential report form on tuition, materials, accommodation, food, hospitality, outings and organisation of the course and receives a Direct Learning Certificate at the end of the course.
