    ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

    The Belarussian State University of Transport (until 1993 it was named Belarussian Institute of Railway Engineering) was founded in 1953 and it is situated in Gomel, one of the most beautiful places of the Belarussian Polesye.

    The University is the leading educational and scientific research institution of the transport and building complex of the country. Over the past years the University has trained more than 27000 bachelors and engineers.

    The Institute of Raising Professional Skills and Scientific Research Institute of Railway Transport function within the structure of the University.

    The University is integrated into the international educational system, it has an up-to-date educational, methodical and rescarch base at its disposal.

    Outstanding achievements of the academic staff:

    The development concept of the united transport system of the Republic of Belarus was created. It takes into account the integration of the European and CIS countries transport system; methods of fall of functional organic covering from active gaseous phase were created;
    the theoretical forecasting of infra structure of car park maintenance was worked out;
    limitation meaning of critical acceleration for belarusian soil was defined;
    wear-resistanable self-lubricated bearings on wood basis, impregnated with polymeric solution, which are reliable in aggressive enviroment, were worked out;
    the couple group theory with its application in athens geometry and polyadydic automatic machines was created;
    the high-speed automatic control system of electrolocomotive braking power was worked out and introduced. Its usage enables to shorten braking way for 18-22 % and to guarantee permanent value of train slowing down at urgent braking;
    on 29 January 1992 the University of Transport got diploma for the discovery of the phenomenon of formation of zone saturated with hydrogen in under surface metal layer during friction (the phenomenon of metal hydrogen wear).

    Special departmental resourses:

    Library - 650 000 volumes, 2 reading-halls housing 200 seats, 250 computers, hostels for 1265 students, sport complex, medical aid post.

    Research programmes:

    Optimum development of the united transport system of the Republic of Belarus; working out of information, power and resource saving, safe and ecologically pure technologies; reliability and durability, diagnostics and estimation of transport resources; electromagnetic compatibility of microelectronic control systems of responsible technological processes; technology, physics, chemistry, mechanics of compositional materials and covering; diagnostics and estimation of building structure element resources; automatic machines and limit tasks; hydrogen wear, working out of protection methods of friction units of machines and gearings against it.

    Local facilities and features:

    The University complex including the student campus , scientific and technical library and Sports Complex is situated in the heart of the city.
