Master of Business Administration in Potsdam

By Mrs. Dr. Roya Madani, Programme Director
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
University of Potsdam, Germany

The intention of the MBA program is the sensible combination of scientific content with practical situations and problems. An essential part of the concept is the integration both of scientist and practical experts as lecturers. Additionally to case studies and project assignments also situations of the actual business situations of the participants must be part of the tuition.

The biotechnology- and IT-sectors are innovative, future-orientated and fast-growing industrial branches. Future leaders in the Health-Care-sector have to face new challenges in the areas of organization and competitive strategies, particulary with new problems like case rates and cost pressure, while there are no changes in the care that is needed. To ensure the long-termed success of a company, the ones responsible for the personnel need to have knowledge, skills and professional qualifications in Personnel/Leadership and Management, both from an economical and a psychological point of view.

The Potsdam MBA

In terms of content, the MBA-studies at the University of Potsdam can be divided into two phases. On one side, all students complete the compulsory courses in general management. Afterwards, they specialise in one of the five directions. In the general management part, the participants are provided an insight into business law and scientific research. Others subjects are business accounting and controlling. They also learn the most important issues about strategic- and Human-Resource-Management. Sales, B2B marketing and business development are also part of the general management courses.

The MBA-study model is very considerate of the needs of employees and companies. It is based on the Blended Learning principle (Distance Learning, combined with in-class lectures), which ensures a maximum of flexibility for the student’s own time-management. The in-class lectures take place every 2-3 weeks at the weekend (Friday and Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm).

University of Potsdam

Since its founding 24 years ago, the University of Potsdam has excelled in research and teaching and is well positioned both on a national and international scale. Achieving this under consistently difficult economic conditions speaks for the quality and motivation of our professors, research, and administrative staff.

The University of Potsdam is with its 20.000 students the largest university in the federal state Brandenburg. It has five faculties – the faculty of law, the faculty of economics and social sciences, the faculty of human sciences, the faculty of philosophy and the faculty of math and natural sciences – with more than 100 courses of studies in 30 different subjects. Unique is the network “pearls”, which connects the University of Potsdam with 21 non-university research institutes and creates an extensive network for external partners in the context of further education.

The UP Transfer GmbH at the University of Potsdam (UPT) was founded in 1998. The UPT is a nonprofit subsidiary company of the University of Potsdam and has the task to transfer the results of research and teaching efficiently to the market. In this sense, the UP Transfer GmbH spans a bridge between science and economy/administration and the other way around.
